From Repairs to Ownership

When Technology Starts Managing Your Team

Managed IT is for organizations that need more than occasional repairs. BCIT provides managed IT support, including unlimited remote support for covered users. Your proposal defines the users, systems, and work covered. Onsite visits are included according to your agreement, with separate projects explained before work begins.

Battle Creek IT works across the technology your organization depends on, including Microsoft 365, endpoints, networks, security controls, backups and recovery, vendors, and future projects.

Know what you have, keep it maintained, and make the next decision with better information. If you are comparing proposals, our managed IT cost guide explains the questions worth asking beyond the monthly number. For the provider conversation, bring these questions to ask an IT company about support, security, account access, and the handoff.

Planning a change? Use our guides to decide whether your business still needs a server, coordinate employee IT offboarding, and verify technical controls before answering cyber insurance questions.

Signs the Current Approach Is Not Working

  • Recurring issues keep returningWorkarounds pile up, small problems consume staff time, and the underlying cause stays untouched.
  • Vendors point at one anotherYour team is left coordinating internet, phones, software, devices, and cloud services.
  • Decisions happen without a planLicenses, equipment, security tools, and projects are purchased one at a time.

Four Responsibilities, One Accountable IT Relationship

MAINTAIN

Proactive Maintenance

Monitoring, patching, and consistent device administration help keep routine work from becoming avoidable disruption.

SUPPORT

Unlimited Remote Support

Unlimited remote support for covered users is included in every BCIT managed plan, with requests tracked through resolution or vendor escalation.

PROTECT

Security-Focused Protection

Endpoint, identity, maintenance, backup, and escalation practices work together as part of daily IT operations.

PLAN

Local Technology Planning

Lifecycle needs, risks, and projects become a practical roadmap leadership can review with a local team.

What the Relationship Can Coordinate

The Operational Pieces, Managed as One Service

Your agreement explains the covered users and systems. These are the everyday responsibilities a managed relationship can bring together.

Helpdesk and User Support

Covered users have a clear place to request remote help, with issues reviewed, prioritized, documented, and kept moving.

Proactive Device Management

Centralized monitoring, patching, and endpoint management support visibility, maintenance, and consistent administration.

Managed Security Monitoring

Managed endpoint and identity threat detection supports a broader approach to prevention, review, and escalation.

Microsoft 365 Administration

User access, licensing, security settings, collaboration, onboarding, and offboarding receive ongoing administration.

Backups, Networks, and Wi-Fi

Recovery planning and attention to switches, wireless access, firewalls, and connectivity keep core systems in view.

Vendor Coordination and Planning

Technical coordination, lifecycle priorities, and future projects are organized into decisions leadership can review.

Security in Daily Operations

Tools Matter, but So Do Configuration, Identity, and Escalation

Battle Creek IT brings endpoint and identity management, preventive controls, alert review, backup planning, documentation, and escalation into the managed-services conversation.

Microsoft 365 is part of that operating model. User access, licensing, security settings, Teams, SharePoint, collaboration, and offboarding need ongoing administration connected to the devices and support processes around them.

Technology controls can support an organization’s compliance obligations, but technology services alone do not guarantee compliance outcomes.

A Responsible Path from Discovery to Improvement

STEP 1

Discover

Review users, devices, Microsoft 365, networks, security tools, backups, vendors, access, and known concerns.

STEP 2

Document

Capture the information needed to support the environment, clarify ownership, and establish useful context.

STEP 3

Stabilize

Address agreed priorities and bring management tools, support workflows, and escalation paths into place.

STEP 4

Improve

Use documentation and recurring patterns to guide maintenance, lifecycle decisions, risks, and future projects.

Changing IT Providers

A Careful Handoff, Not a Blind Leap

Changing IT companies can feel risky because access, licensing, email, files, and support responsibilities all have to move in the right order. The answer is a documented transition with the business owner involved, not a promise that nothing can go wrong.

When a change may be justified

  • Recurring problems return without a clear cause or plan.
  • Administrative access and equipment information are poorly documented.
  • Support ownership is unclear and your staff has become the vendor coordinator.
  • The provider’s service model no longer fits your organization’s needs.

When keeping your provider is reasonable

If your current provider communicates clearly, protects the environment, keeps access documented, solves issues, and helps you plan, changing for the sake of change is unlikely to improve anything.

A free assessment should help you judge fit. It should not manufacture a crisis to force a sale.

How switching to BCIT works

STEP 1

Talk and look onsite

We discuss the business, explain how we work, review the site’s technology setup, and perform initial network discovery with professional network-testing equipment.

STEP 2

Confirm access and sequence

With the owner’s authorization, we identify administrative access, licensing, equipment, vendors, known risks, and the order in which responsibilities should move.

STEP 3

Take over what already works

Microsoft 365 administration can usually move within the existing tenant. Licensing may change separately. Existing email, files, computers, and equipment are assessed before any migration or replacement is proposed.

STEP 4

Apply the agreed baseline

We install the agreed remote management and security tools, correct priority access gaps, document the network, and plan later improvements around the actual environment.

Microsoft 365, email, and files

Taking over administration of an existing Microsoft 365 tenant is not the same as moving to a new tenant. A tenant migration is recommended only when the environment and business need justify it.

Computers, servers, and equipment

Switching providers does not automatically mean replacing hardware or removing a server. In one recent takeover, computers moved from an onsite domain to Microsoft Entra join where appropriate. That was a specific decision, not a universal requirement.

The outgoing provider

BCIT can request documentation and coordinate the handoff professionally. The business owner may need to authorize requests, confirm account ownership, or step in if access is delayed. Cooperation cannot be guaranteed.

What we need from the owner

We need a decision maker, permission to coordinate the handoff, available contracts or licensing records, known concerns, and time with the right staff. Credentials should be transferred through an agreed secure method, never pasted into the website contact form.

Questions About Managed IT and Switching Providers

Should we switch IT providers if our current company is doing a good job?
Probably not. A provider that communicates clearly, maintains security, documents access, solves issues, and helps your organization plan is providing real value. BCIT is a better fit when the current relationship leaves recurring problems, unclear ownership, weak documentation, or a service model that no longer matches the business. The assessment is meant to test fit, not create urgency where none exists.
Will changing IT companies interrupt Microsoft 365, email, or files?
Not automatically. BCIT can often take over administration of the existing Microsoft 365 tenant, which is different from migrating the business to a new tenant. Licensing can be changed separately from email and file location. We review administrative roles, licensing, identity settings, and dependencies before changing them. The sequence is planned to reduce disruption, but no responsible provider should guarantee zero downtime.
Do we have to replace our computers or get rid of our server?
No. Existing computers, servers, network equipment, and licensing are evaluated based on condition, supportability, security, and business need. A recent BCIT transition included moving suitable computers from an onsite domain to Microsoft Entra join, but that was appropriate for that environment. It is not a requirement for every business, and switching providers is not a disguised hardware replacement project.
What if our outgoing IT provider does not cooperate?
Many providers handle transitions professionally. BCIT can request documentation, identify the access needed, and keep the owner informed. If information is missing or delayed, the business owner may need to confirm account ownership, authorize a request, contact a vendor, or help recover access. We cannot guarantee another provider’s cooperation, but a structured inventory helps separate a delay from a true technical blocker.
What happens during BCIT’s free IT assessment?
The assessment includes a business conversation and an initial technical assessment onsite. We discuss needs, explain how BCIT works, share useful information, look at the existing technology setup, and perform initial network discovery with professional network-testing equipment. It is a practical starting point, not a comprehensive security audit, penetration test, compliance certification, or exhaustive review of every system.
What support is included after we become a managed client?
Unlimited remote support for covered users is included in every BCIT managed plan. The proposal or service agreement defines the covered users, devices, responsibilities, and work that may require separate scoping. Unlimited remote support does not mean a 24/7 staffed help desk, and it does not extend to non-managed customers. Managed plans also include onsite visits, with frequency and covered work defined in the agreement. After-hours arrangements are confirmed separately for the engagement.
How long does an IT provider transition take?
The schedule depends on the number of users and locations, the condition of the documentation, access to Microsoft 365 and other systems, licensing dates, equipment, known risks, and the outgoing provider’s response. BCIT can set a sequence after discovery, but we do not promise a fixed completion date before understanding the environment. Urgent risks and basic support access are usually prioritized first.
