Why It Matters

Your Business Does Not Have to Be Big to Be Worth Protecting.

Attackers stopped going after big corporations exclusively years ago. Small businesses in Southwest Michigan run the same Microsoft 365 accounts, the same online banking, and the same valuable customer data, with a fraction of the defenses. Automated attacks don't care how many employees you have. They care whether your door is locked.

A convincing phishing message or stolen password can give an attacker a starting point. The consequences may include exposed information, payment fraud, or interrupted work. Protecting accounts, limiting access, and preparing for recovery work together; no single product covers every risk.

Security is the foundation of our managed IT services, not an optional upsell. BCIT combines monitoring, configuration, and ongoing management with a local team that explains what needs attention.

What an Unprotected Business Risks

  • Business email compromise Attackers hijack a mailbox and redirect customer payments to their own accounts.
  • Ransomware downtime Operations stop for days or weeks while data is held hostage.
  • Compliance obligations A security incident can create reporting, contractual, and regulatory questions that need qualified advice.
  • Lost customer trust Telling clients their data was exposed is a conversation no owner wants.
What's Included

Layers of Protection, Managed by a Local Team

Account, device, network, and recovery controls need to work together. We define the systems covered and manage the agreed protections as a coordinated service.

24/7 Managed Detection & Response

24/7 managed detection and response uses monitoring and human analysts to investigate suspicious activity and take appropriate containment action on covered systems. That security capability is distinct from a promise of a 24/7 staffed BCIT help desk.

Identity & Account Protection

Protect Microsoft 365 accounts with multifactor authentication, appropriate administrative access, and monitoring for suspicious activity. If an account is compromised, response depends on the incident and available access, not a universal minute-level guarantee.

Email Security & Anti Phishing

Filtering and domain protections help reduce phishing, spoofing, and malicious messages. Combine those controls with sensible payment-verification habits and staff awareness. No email filter makes every message safe or prevents every kind of impersonation.

Endpoint Protection & Patching

Manage supported devices with security baselines, endpoint protection, and planned updates. Exceptions and older applications need attention too. We balance protection with the operational requirements of the environment rather than assuming every update can be applied without review.

Network & Firewall Security

Business firewalls, network segmentation, and appropriate access rules help separate staff, guest, camera, and payment traffic. Monitoring and maintenance matter after installation. Isolation reduces risk; it does not make an unsupported system risk-free.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

Plan independent backups and appropriate recovery testing for the systems that matter. Our backup and disaster recovery services help turn recovery into a defined process, with expectations based on the actual environment.

How We Lock Down Your Business

STEP 1

Assess

Begin with your business needs and an initial onsite technical assessment with network discovery. Deeper security investigation or compliance-related work is scoped separately rather than implied by a free assessment.

STEP 2

Harden

Prioritize the agreed improvements, including multifactor authentication, account configuration, device policies, email protection, and network access. Explain dependencies and any work that needs a planned change window.

STEP 3

Monitor

Configure monitoring and managed detection and response for the covered devices and identities. Confirm the escalation process and keep administrative access and contact information current.

STEP 4

Respond & Improve

Investigate and contain incidents according to the situation, coordinate recovery, and review what can be improved. Recovery depends on the systems, available backups, and the incident itself. No responsible security program promises that nothing can ever get through.

Compliance Support

Technical Support for Your Security Requirements

Patient information, payment systems, and insurer questionnaires can bring specific technical requirements. Those requirements should be checked against the systems and controls you actually have, not answered from a generic checklist. Use our cyber-insurance IT checklist to organize the controls and evidence to verify before answering an insurer.

BCIT can discuss the technical work and documentation needed for your environment and coordinate with the appropriate specialists. The organization retains its compliance responsibilities. Our IT work is not a legal opinion, compliance certification, or guarantee of insurance coverage.

Cybersecurity Questions We Hear Most

We're a small company. Are we really a target for hackers?
Yes. Automated attacks can look for weak accounts and exposed systems without caring how large the business is. Email, customer information, and payment processes can all matter to an attacker. The practical response is layered protection, appropriate access, monitoring, and recovery planning. You do not need to assume a breach is inevitable to take security seriously.
What does managed cybersecurity cost for a small business?
Security is built into BCIT's managed IT approach, with services defined around your users, systems, and support needs. The proposal explains the covered users, systems, and services. Licensing, specialized requirements, and work outside the managed scope need to be understood before comparing offers. Start with a free business conversation and initial onsite technical assessment so the recommendation is based on your business.
We already have antivirus. Isn't that enough?
Endpoint protection is useful, but security also involves accounts, email, permissions, updates, networks, and recovery. A stolen password or fraudulent payment request is not necessarily a computer virus. BCIT plans those layers together, including managed detection and response for covered systems. The goal is to reduce opportunities for an attacker and improve the ability to respond, not rely on one tool to do everything.
Can you help with HIPAA or PCI requirements?
We can discuss the technical safeguards and IT documentation relevant to your environment and define the work BCIT can provide. Compliance also involves organizational, contractual, and sometimes legal responsibilities beyond IT configuration. We do not promise certification, an exhaustive compliance audit, or a particular insurer's approval. Bring the specific requirements so we can identify the appropriate scope and any specialist help needed.
What if we think we've already been hacked?
Call BCIT at (269) 261-0269 and explain what you are seeing. If email may be compromised, use a separate trusted way to contact us. We will discuss the situation, available access, and the appropriate next steps. Do not assume that a free initial assessment includes a full incident investigation or that recovery can be promised before the incident is understood.
