Protect, Verify, Recover

A Backup You've Never Tested Is a Hope, Not a Plan

Ransomware, hardware failure, fire, or one wrong click. Whatever takes your data down, what matters is how fast you're back. Battle Creek IT builds backup and recovery systems that are isolated from attack, verified continuously, and tested with real restores.

The Uncomfortable Question

Almost Every Business Has a Backup. Far Fewer Have a Recovery.

Ask an owner if their data is backed up and the answer is usually yes. Ask when a restore was last tested, how long recovery would actually take, or whether the backup would survive the same ransomware that hit the computers, and the room gets quiet. A backup that's never been tested, sits on a drive plugged into the machine it protects, or was set up years ago by someone who's gone isn't protection. It's a feeling of protection.

The Microsoft 365 misconception deserves its own mention: Microsoft keeps your cloud services running, but deleted emails, overwritten files, and a compromised account purging years of mailbox history are largely your problem, not theirs. Cloud data needs its own independent backup just like a server does, which is why it's a standard part of how we manage Microsoft 365 environments.

We design backup around one question: when something goes wrong, how fast is your business working again? Everything else, the schedules, the storage, the technology, exists to make that answer short.

Signs Your Backup Plan Is a Liability

  • No one has ever tested a restore The only proof a backup works is restoring from it.
  • The backup drive lives next to the computer Ransomware encrypts attached backups too. So does a fire.
  • You assume Microsoft backs up your email Their retention is not a backup, and the gaps surprise people at the worst time.
  • Nobody can say how long recovery takes Hours and weeks are very different answers to your payroll.
What We Protect

Every Copy of Your Business That Matters

Servers, workstations, and cloud data, each with its own protection and one recovery plan tying it together.

Microsoft 365 Backup

Independent backup of email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams data, separate from Microsoft's own systems. Deleted mailboxes, overwritten documents, and compromised accounts become recoverable instead of gone.

Server & Workstation Backup

Full image-based backups of servers and key computers, so recovery means restoring a complete working machine, not reinstalling software for a week and hoping the files turn up.

Offsite & Cloud Copies

The 3-2-1 principle in practice: multiple copies, different storage, at least one offsite in the cloud. A fire, flood, or theft at your building cannot take your data with it.

Ransomware-Resilient Design

Backup copies isolated from your network and protected from tampering, so an attacker who encrypts your computers can't reach the recovery copies. This is the difference between an incident and a payout, and it works hand in hand with our cybersecurity services.

Verified & Tested Restores

Backups are monitored daily for success, and we perform scheduled test restores to prove recovery actually works. You see the results, not promises. The first time a restore runs should never be the day you need it.

Disaster Recovery Planning

A written, plain-language plan stating what's protected, how fast each system comes back, and who does what when things go wrong. It also answers the questions cyber insurers and compliance audits now ask.

How We Build Your Safety Net

STEP 1

Map What Matters

We identify the data and systems your business actually runs on, and define two numbers in plain language: how much data you can afford to lose, and how long you can afford to be down.

STEP 2

Design & Deploy

Backup is configured to hit those numbers: what gets copied, how often, where it's stored, and how it's isolated from attack. Deployed without disrupting your team.

STEP 3

Verify Continuously

Every backup job is monitored, failures get fixed the day they happen, and scheduled test restores prove the system does what it claims.

STEP 4

Recover When It Counts

When something goes wrong, from one deleted file to a dead server, we run the recovery. You make one phone call and get your business back.

The Ransomware Reality

The Only Ransom Negotiation Worth Having Is the One You Skip

Modern ransomware doesn't just encrypt your computers. It hunts for backups first, because attackers know an intact backup means nobody pays. Backup drives plugged into servers, network shares full of backup files, and cloud sync folders all get encrypted right alongside everything else.

That's why isolation is the heart of our design: recovery copies an attacker can't see, can't reach, and can't alter. Paired with the 24/7 detection in our managed services plans, ransomware becomes a bad day with a known ending instead of an existential threat with an invoice.

Backup Questions We Hear Most

Doesn't Microsoft already back up our email and files?
Not the way most people assume. Microsoft keeps the service running and offers limited retention windows, but permanently deleted items, overwritten files, departed employee data past the retention period, and damage done by a compromised account are largely unrecoverable without your own backup. Microsoft's own agreements point the data responsibility back at you. Independent Microsoft 365 backup closes that gap.
We back up to an external drive. Is that enough?
It's a start, and it's also the setup that fails most often. A drive connected to the computer gets encrypted by the same ransomware, destroyed by the same fire, and stolen in the same break-in. It also depends on a human remembering to run and rotate it. Proper protection means automated copies, with at least one offsite and isolated from your network.
How fast can we be back up after ransomware or a dead server?
That's a design decision, not luck, and it's the first thing we define with you. With image-based backups and a tested plan, individual files come back in minutes and full systems typically within hours. Without one, businesses routinely lose a week or more, and some never fully recover. We'll tell you your current realistic recovery time during a free review, which is often the moment the problem gets real.
What is the 3-2-1 backup rule?
Three copies of your data, on two different types of storage, with one copy offsite. The original on your systems, a local backup for fast restores, and a cloud copy that survives anything that happens to your building. It's the baseline standard we design to, with the modern addition that at least one copy is isolated so ransomware can't touch it.
What does backup and disaster recovery cost?
It scales with how much data you have and how fast you need to recover, and it's included as a foundation in our managed services plans rather than sold as a scary add-on. Whatever the number is, it's a rounding error next to a week of downtime, a ransom demand, or explaining to clients that their records are gone. The free review gives you an exact figure.
